Wide Mouth HDPE Jars

Wide mouth HDPE jars are ideal for many pharmaceutical packaging applications. HDPE jars are available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes and can be custom-designed to fit your needs. Large wide mouth round or rectangular jars are good for bulk storage of powders, liquids and pastes on the pharmacist’s shelves. The large mouth makes scooping of contents into and out of the container easy. Smaller HDPE containers are well-suited to retail packaging of pills and other medications.

Also known as #2 plastic, HDPE (high density polyethylene) is the most commonly used material for plastic bottles. It has several qualities that make it an ideal packaging material:

  • HDPE jars are economical to manufacture. Their light weight reduces shipping costs.
  • HDPE containers are FDA-approved for packaging of food and beverages.
  • The material is flexible, strong and dent-resistant. Using HDPE instead of glass reduces the costs of breakage and product spillage in shipping and handling.
  • HDPE is naturally translucent and resistant to UV light penetration.
  • It is suitable for storage of acidic and caustic materials.
  • It performs well at below-freezing temperatures.
  • HDPE is recyclable.
  • HDPE containers are dishwasher safe and can be reused for appropriate applications such as water or dairy products.

HDPE jars do have some limitations. They are not suitable for filling with products that are hotter than 160 degrees F during packaging. They cannot be used in vacuum-packaging processes. They are not suitable for storage of solvents or essential oils.
