In light of this celebratory holiday, we gave our team the opportunity to define what being a mother is to them and share a special Mother’s Day message about the mothers in their lives. Here’s what they had to say.

Happy Mother’s Day from the MJS Packaging Team

Ashley Carson, Account Specialist

“To me, the definition of a mother is a loving & selfless person who makes sacrifices for their children. That is my mother, Alicia, to a ‘T.’ She was a single mother for a bit of my childhood, but she made sure I never wanted for anything.

She worked multiple jobs to make it all happen, as a child I didn’t understand all that went into taking care of a child and a home but as an adult with my own child now, I have the utmost respect for her. I honestly don’t know how she did it. I fully credit her with molding me into the woman, wife & mother I am today. She always pushed me to do my best and to not give up just because something was difficult. She instilled in me that just because something was easy, didn’t necessarily mean it was the most fulfilling option.

My parents recently moved back down to South Carolina after living in Indiana for 16 years, and I truly enjoy getting to spend more time with her. I love our lunches at one of our favorite restaurants, visiting one of the vineyards in the NC mountains or simply hanging out on my back patio with a glass of wine. I can’t imagine my life without her. Love you, Momma! Happy Mother’s Day.”

“With 4 active children from ages 3-14, I am blessed to have an amazing mom and mother-in-law to support my family. They are always there to chauffeur, cheerlead, love and advocate for me and my children. I am very lucky to have 2 great moms in my life!!!“

“My mom is one special lady. She’s creative, loving, giving, caring, etc., but most of all, she loves unconditionally. Each day is special and I cherish the time we spend together.”

Joyce Schaffer, Account Specialist

“My mom not only raised me and my siblings but was instrumental in raising my son, niece, and nephews as well. Her children and grandchildren are wonderful parents, and I believe it’s a reflection of her. She was kind, hilarious and generous and always respected those that had less than her.

She would try and help them by making them a meal (which was probably her best asset, she could have been the greatest chef) or helping with the few pennies she had. She passed away in 2013 of Alzheimer’s, and we all miss her dearly!”

Bill Schmude, Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain

“I appreciate my mom more and more every year. How we are raised shapes us in so many ways. My Mom would always let us challenge ourselves even though it may be risky. She never wanted her boys to be scared whether it was to climb a tree, take apart a radio or dive off a cliff. What she was doing behind the scenes was gauging the risk and always was there to encourage us letting us know she had faith in us. I am who I am because of my mom.”

Cindy Vogel, Marketing Director

“My mom has always been a constant source of support and encouragement for our entire family. She has a quiet strength and grace about her, and I admire my mom’s generosity and thoughtfulness towards others. Although my mom may have tortured us with her progressive nutritional ways in the early 80s with carob, whole wheat bread and all-natural peanut butter, she set us all on a life-long path for healthy living. Thank you for all you do, Mom. I love you! XO”

Bobbie Sue Young, Human Resource Manager

“The definition of mother varies based on the person you ask. To some, it may be the woman who birthed them and to others it may be the person that made the most influence on their life. My definition of mother is in short, Liz. Although her name and stature are short, her heart is HUGE.

Liz is the most selfless person I have ever met and anyone who knows her would agree. She has spent her life-giving and caring for others often at the expense of herself. Most kids bring home stray animals, but I was the kid that brought home stray humans and mom was always there to welcome them with open arms. She taught me the value of compassion, hard work, kindness and to treat others as I would want to be treated, a value that I continue to live my life by.

Not only is she the best mother but she is the best grandmother too. Every day, I aspire to be more like her, and I am so grateful to have someone with such a beautiful soul for my family and I to look up to. I love you, momma!”
