Plastic Closures

Plastic closures are very popular as they are one of many products consumers use every day. Two basic types of plastic closures are thermoset and thermoplastic.

Thermoset

Closure Materials
Thermoset closures are the perfect option for products in the cosmetic and personal care industries.

Thermoset plastic closures will always remain in a permanent solid state once hardened. Thermoset closures are perfect for packaging that must withstand high temperatures. Their rigidity provides high levels of dimensional stability. Closures made from this type of material are typically known as Bakelite or Phenolic closures. Phenolic is short for Phenol Formaldehyde Resin. Phenolic closures are suitable for many products and are non-chemically reactive. This style of closure provides durability, long life, and when the proper liner is selected, a perfect seal on the bottle.

Thermoplastic

Closure Materials
Beverages, such as juices and sodas, are fresher longer with these thermoplastic closures.

Thermoplastic closures, including dispensing closures, are made primarily from PP (polypropylene) material. Some are even made from PET material. Unlike thermoset, thermoplastic closures can be remolded after being formed and are chemical-resistant. Thermoplastic closures can withstand high temperatures but are less suitable for freezing temperatures where they can become brittle. Plastic closures offered by MJS Packaging are known for their good impact strength and cost-effectiveness. We supply endless options in both stock and custom PP closures.

Metal Closures

Closure Materials
Metal closures are versatile and available in many sizes for various industries.

Metal closures are often paired with glass or plastic containers. They have the widest range of temperature tolerances, which makes them very durable. Additionally, the closures are manufactured from either steel, which is coated with an anti-corrosive coating of either chrome plate or tinplate, or aluminum. Metal closures are commonly found in colors like white, black, silver and gold.
