A Career Built on Loyalty and Family
Lenny was 18 years old when he first walked through the doors of MJS Packaging. He had just returned from college, was looking for work and found something that clicked. Twenty-eight years later, he is still here. “I have never dreaded going to work,” he says. “I’ve enjoyed the friendships, the flexibility, the freedom of the job, the people you meet and the drivers you meet over the course of the years. It makes it easy to continue to do the job. Everything’s been amicable and positive.”
For Lenny, the story at MJS Packaging is also a family one. His father, Lenny Reese I, worked in the same Livonia warehouse for over 30 years. Reaching his 28th anniversary was a moment he reflects on with real meaning. “It was a monumental point for me when I got to the point where I had spent more than half my life working here.”
Running the Livonia Warehouse
As Warehouse Manager, Lenny is responsible for all goods entering and exiting the Livonia facility, as well as day-to-day warehouse and building operations. He describes his role plainly: “I am a fixer of problems. A fixer, a doer, a solver. I am always focused on getting stuff out the door consistently.”
The scope of what moves through the Livonia warehouse is broad. Approximately 70% of the volume is Retail, covering Miamica, spray bottles and travel plastics from our Sprayco Consumer Product lines , with the remaining 30% made up of MJS Packaging orders. Lenny oversees receiving, inventory, picking, shipping and loading across the facility, managing his team and pushing toward the goal regardless of the obstacles. “If we’re not here, then we’re not shipping,” he says.
Value-Added Services That Deliver Results
A key factor in the Livonia warehouse’s value to retail customers is the range of services Lenny’s team provides beyond standard warehousing. Stickering, assembling and reboxing products so they are ready for direct-to-floor delivery is a regular part of operations. That preparation shortens retailers’ turnaround time and reduces complexity in their supply chains.
The Value of Variety
One of the things Lenny values most about his role is that no two days are the same. ” I do like solving problems. It’s just finding different ways to do things,” he explains. “No two days are alike, but they’re very similar. You’re always shipping boxes, you’re always receiving. You don’t get the mundane.”
That constant need to adapt suits Lenny well. He is comfortable being pulled in multiple directions and sees flexibility as a core part of the job. “You’re always adjusting, and I’ve come to realize I do enjoy that.”
Insights into the Packaging Industry
After 28 years in the industry, Lenny still finds something striking about the scale of what packaging touches. “You see how much goes out and you see what people are buying frequently,” he says. “It’s always interesting finding something that we produce on the shelves.”
What strikes him most is how much happens behind the scenes. “It seems like a simple thing but there’s a lot more to it.” For someone who has spent his career in a warehouse watching it all move, that sense of scale has never lost its impact.
Defining Success
For Lenny, success is not measured in titles or milestones. It comes down to something more personal. “On a personal level, it’s loving what you do,” he says. “I thoroughly enjoy what I do. I enjoy the people I work with. So, in that regard, this is something to look forward to, something to continue to come back to.”
The mantra he lives by reflects the same practical, get-it-done spirit that defines his work every day: “If you break it, I’ll fix it.”
