PET Packaging

Polyethylene terephthalate or PET is one of the most popular and adaptive plastic packaging materials. This popularity is due to its superior attributes including- ease of use in conjunction with a mold, clarity, shatter resistance, PET’s ability to be relatively easily recycled and PET’s cost effectiveness. These aspects of PET have pushed it to prominence as one of the fastest growing materials in popular use.

Some additional features of PET as a packaging material include-

1. Viscosity and hydroscopic nature- Apart from the key aspect that is PET’s intrinsic viscosity, PET also has a natural tendency to absorb water from its surroundings, allowing PET to be processed through common molding machines then dried.

2. Wear resistance- Compared to other plastics, PET has a superior capability of wear resistance.

3. Low friction coefficient- PET’s friction resistance makes PET useful in numerous applications where other plastics are unusable.

4. Flexibility- PET has a comparatively high flexural modulus which gives PET a greater degree of flexibility in production.

5. Stability- PET also is imbued with a higher than average level of stability which makes it both strong and versatile.

6. No off gassing or leaking- PET’s chemicals do not seep into fluid or food that is stored within PET containers. This aspect of PET has made PET one of the most popular ad important food storage products.

7. Recyclability- When PET is recycled, it can be quite beneficial. Recycled PET can be found in everything from fabrics, to polyester based carpeting, to fiberfill in sleeping bags and winter coats. PET can also be useful for film and strapping as well as in automobile products including bumpers and fuse boxes.

PET is ideal for use in pharmaceutical packaging, shampoo and other cosmetic packaging as well as virtually any liquid-based packaging.
