There are many different types of closure liners, but sometimes a product just needs a practical and affordable closure option like traditional cap liners. These closure components still serve the three main purposes of liners, including preserving a vacuum seal, preventing leakage, and demonstrating product integrity through the use of a tamper-evident seal, but they can be much simpler to put into action for your product. Even with that simplicity, however, it is important to know your options.

Types of Traditional Cap Liners

With MJS Packaging, traditional cap liners are far from boringTo provide a completely indispensable introduction to traditional cap liners, we can help you understand their abilities and limitations. It also helps to know your options, so there are three main types of traditional cap liners we highlight in this post.

1. Basic Foam Liners: White and coming in a range of thicknesses, this traditional cap liner just stays in the cap.

2. Pulp Cap Liners and Cardboard Cap Liners: These consist of a cardboard liner with a polyvinyl lubricate film on it.  Like foam liners, they stay in the cap.

3. Plastisol Cap Liners: Used in metal caps, these closure liners involve a bit more processing, but have increased functionality. The application begins with a nozzle spinning the plastisol into the finished closure in liquid form. The closures then go into an oven for curing. Closures must cool down before they are ready for use, but they are an excellent option for hot filling. The metal cap, plastisol, and jar create a vacuum seal and “POP” when a consumer opens it for the first time.

Each of these liners can be used on a number of products. We can even help you match the right recommended closure components with your product! However, because each product deserves optimal quality and may require customization, we always recommend your business test the compatibility of the closure.
