New Beverage Crazes
The beverage market is exploding at the moment with the expansion in popularity of several new beverages. As we’ve been seeing a lot more of these drinks in the hands of consumers lately, we wanted to feature them to keep you in-the-know on the latest industry trends while highlighting one of our favorite beverage bottles.
Kombucha is King
Although we’ve seen a variety of beverages grow in popularity recently, kombucha takes the crown. Kombucha has been around for thousands of years, so it's not exactly a “new” product. However, in the past few years, it has taken the beverage industry by storm for several reasons. Due to its many health benefits, kombucha has become a hot commodity to younger consumers, who we know value the ingredients and perceived benefits of products more than prior generations of consumers.
Not only is kombucha a potential source of probiotics, and contains powerful antioxidants and antibacterial properties, kombucha may also reduce risk of heart disease, help manage type 2 diabetes, and may even help protect against cancer. It’s clear to see why this healthy beverage choice has taken off in recent years.
Second, we want to look at cold pressed juices. Cold pressing involves removing the juice from fruits and vegetables without using heat. Juices manufactured through the cold press process are richer in nutritional content than their non-cold-pressed counterparts, making them ideal for health-conscious consumers.
Cold pressed juices are commonly stored in glass packaging to appeal to the “clean” trend that we’ve discussed previously. Since data shows that consumers now care about both what a product is packaged in and what a product is made of, glass bottling seems like an ideal solution for cold pressed drinks.
Cold Brew Rises Up
Lastly, let’s discuss cold brew coffee. As we mentioned in our experience at the Making it in MI trade show, we saw a lot of entrepreneurs entering into the cold brew coffee space. While there may not be any health benefits in cold brew vs. regular coffee, many consumers prefer the taste due to its lower levels of acidity and higher degrees of sweetness. Cold brew coffee has seen a lot of growth in the past 5-8 years and it doesn’t appear to be going away anytime soon.
